Admission Requirements

For admission into a master's program, doctoral program, graduate certificate program, or as a non-degree seeking student,
the university requires all applicants to submit both university and program requirements.

 University Requirements:

  • A graduate studies application.

  • Official transcripts of ALL college level work
    An official transcript is a transcript submitted directly to the Office of Graduate programs by the college or university or a transcript submitted by the applicant in the original sealed envelop from the college or university.

    NKU alumni do not need to submit transcripts.

  • Non-Refundable Application Fee
    • $40 for all graduate applications except for the DNP and Ed.D
    • $55 for Doctoral admission (DNP/Ed.D)
  • Exceptions:
    • Applicants who have earned a bachelor’s or master’s degree from NKU
    • Applicants who have earned a graduate certificate from NKU
    • Active duty military and veterans
    • Eligible faculty and staff

      *Faculty and staff must submit a copy of their All-card for the waiver to be applied.

    • The application fee is non-refundable regardless of circumstance. If you believe you are eligible for an application fee waiver please contact the Office of Graduate programs at gradprog@nku.edu BEFORE submitting your application.

    • Additional Requirements for
  • a  Some programs will waive the GRE or GMAT test for those who meet specific requirements. Each program has different requirements to satisfy the waiver. For details please visit the program's Admission Requirements page by clicking on the program name.

    GRE/GMAT/MAT Tests: NKU's school number is 1574

    GRE and GMAT scores can be no older than five (5) years.

Education: Teacher as Leader Teaching certificate Teacher as Leader Admission Agreement: Print, sign, and submit the Teacher as Leader Admission Agreement to the Office of Graduate Programs.
Statement of Professional Goals (SPG): Submit a typewritten Statement of Professional Goals, approximately 300-400 words in length. Should state the reasons for pursuing the Master of Arts in Education: Teacher as Leader degree and the specialization and/or endorsement desired. The SPG should also state the applicant’s goals for professional growth and explain specifically how the chosen degree program/endorsement area will make it possible for the applicant to achieve these goals and improve her/his knowledge and skills as a teacher.
