Why did you come to NKU?

I came to Northern Kentucky University because I was very impressed in the NKY/Cincinnati area when I attended the Two Rivers Industrial Organization Conference my senior year of undergrad. It was during that visit I knew NKU would be the place that would foster growth and challenge me academically, professionally and socially.

Describe your experiences and why it was a good idea to attend NKU:

I've had a well-rounded experience at NKU! From starting out in the Master's in Industrial/Organizational Psychology program to switching to our newly instated College Student Affairs Administration program, I've gained many experiences both socially and academically. I've also worked as the Graduate Assistant for the Office of Student Life and professionally as the Program Coordinator for the Office of African American Student Affairs and Ethnic Services. Finally, I've also served on the Activities Programming Board, co-advised the Leadership Mentors program and advised the NKU NAACP and ENVI Dance Troupe.

How will attending NKU help your career?

Attending NKU has helped me realize that the student affairs profession is my ultimate calling in life. I've been afforded with excellent opportunities to pursue this dream by receiving a head start with my current professional experience. As the first graduate of the Student Affairs program here, I am certain that my professional and educational training received from NKU will open the down for any student affairs position I plan to obtain in the future.

Talk about how NKU's classes fit in with your schedule. Were there other responsibilities you needed to work around?

Both the professors and the supervisors here at Northern did an excellent job helping me get through the curriculum with my busy schedule. I was able to continue as a full-time student while working full-time because everyone was a accommodating and keep my goal of graduating at my desired date at the forefront. I go to class in the evenings and work during the day, which works out nicely; even with my internship requirement this semester, I have still been able to complete my program responsibilities with my work obligations.

How well have you been able to interact with professors?

My professors have been PHENOMENAL! They've taken excellent care of me and have been very understanding to me, being the 'guinea pig' of the Student Affairs program! They've done a good job correlating the Counseling components with practical higher education experiences, an effort that I really appreciate. Anytime I've had a concern or question they've always been there to assist me, and they certainly respect me as an individual in the program.

How well have you been able to network while attending NKU?

I've had an excellent time networking at NKU! Since I work and complete coursework in the area of student affairs, I've had lots of personal encounters with the major administrators of our Academic and Student Affairs division. So many doors have been opened for me as a result of my attending NKU and I know they'll only continue to open as I gain more exposure to the field. My experience here has absolutely been life-altering and I'm forever thankful for it!
